About West Side Lighting

West Side Lighting, LLC is owned by Carbondale resident Zack Smith and was established in 2012. Zack brought a diverse and eclectic set of skills into his new business. He began installing holiday lighting ten years earlier in Boulder, Colorado, and saw an opportunity for specialized, high angle lighting installation work in the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition to this lighting work he has an extensive resume specializing in high angle film work. He has worked on a variety of television shows, movies, documentaries, and televised adventure racing for the BBC, The Discovery Channel, Primal Quest, The Winter X-Games and many others. In 2016 he spent a month on a small, obscure island in the Caribbean rigging complex rope systems in the jungle for a reality tv show called American Tarzan. One of his strangest accomplishments was posing as the Marlboro Man in a commercial which involved rappelling (descending a climbing rope) down a 500 ft. cliff outside of Moab, Ut.

Zack is also an accomplished and well respected climber and mountain guide.

He has climbed all over the world and has done numerous first ascents in Alaska, Patagonia, and the Himalayas.

He became a climbing and mountain guide when he was 22 years old and for a decade and a half earned a living in Moab, Utah and Aspen, Colorado coaxing climbers up desert towers and Colorado 14ers. He has been quoted in the New York Times.

Zack brings this broad experience into his business philosophy:

Be Honest, Communicate Clearly, and Give Attention to Every Detail.

Because of this approach West Side Lighting has grown in size and scope every year since it's conception. Clients will testify to his approachability, perfectionist nature, reliability, and safety.
